Escala 1/100: A Multifunctional Design Inspired by Architecture

Under plate with Sculptural Value and Japanese Sensitivity

Escala 1/100, designed by Huberto and Oriente Aldaz González-Mayo, draws inspiration from Swiss and Japanese architecture to create a unique and versatile piece of furniture. With its sculptural value and sensitivity to Japanese culture, this under plate stands out for its technical precision and harmonious design.

The design of Escala 1/100 is a tribute to the competition of "Chicago Tribune 1922" and the designers' deep knowledge of Swiss and Japanese architecture. This furniture piece, which doubles as an under plate, showcases the fusion of architecture, sculpture, and furniture. Its finished technical details and adherence to the principles of the Phi number make it a truly remarkable creation.

Made from stainless steel and wood, Escala 1/100 is a testament to the designers' craftsmanship. The stainless steel plate, cut with laser precision and folded to a thickness of 3mm, is welded and sanded to achieve a flawless finish. The wooden components are also cut with laser precision and carefully assembled.

Measuring 200mm in width, 200mm in depth, and 390mm in height, Escala 1/100 consists of 13 pieces that fit together seamlessly. Each piece serves one or multiple functions, making this furniture piece both practical and visually appealing. It can be used as a table mat, a lamp with a small candle, and of course, as an under plate.

The creation of Escala 1/100 began in May 2012 in Madrid and was completed in October of the same year. It was later exhibited in November 2012 at Paseo de la Castellana. Throughout the design process, the designers conducted extensive research on the history of skyscrapers and architectural history to infuse their furniture with a deeper meaning.

Escala 1/100 presented several challenges to the designers, including the integration of architecture and design into a single piece. However, their dedication and passion for both fields allowed them to overcome these challenges and create a truly unique and innovative design.

Recognized for its excellence, Escala 1/100 was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The designers' ability to integrate industry best practices and competent technical characteristics into their design sets Escala 1/100 apart.

Escala 1/100 is a testament to the designers' creativity, technical expertise, and passion for architecture and interior design. Its unique blend of functionality and artistic value makes it a standout piece in any space.
